Caring for our world

Recently at PreSchool the kids have been talking and thinking about the importance of sustainability and caring for our world by respecting and appreciating natural environments, finding ways to learn from the land, sharing information and discussing the impact of human activities on our environment.

They have been learning about Little Tang and Mark the monkey, and their families who live in the lowland rainforests in Indonesia along with many other animals. unfortunately large amounts of the rain forests have been destroyed, which means that Little Tang (Orangutan) is an endangered species. To help keep all the people and animals healthy and safe, we need to look after our world!

Mark the monkey and Little Tang were wondering how Agnes and Elliot care for our world? They invited us to share how we use compost bins, recycling, growing vegetables, picking up litter and saving water.

Elliot picking up the 'Caring for our World Kit',
containing stories about Little Tang and Mark and
the book where she can write about how she cares for
the world

On the first page, Agnes told of riding their bicycles:
We ride our bicycles to the library instead of polluting the world with our car
 - that is caring for the world!
-Agnes

Proud bike riders with Mark the monkey!
Next they explained:
Caring for the world is when we rescued Budgie when he was lost, so that he wouldn't be eaten by the big birds
-Elliot

Caring for the world is saving water! We put a bucket in the shower and then water our herbs and vegetables with the spare water
-Agnes & Milla

Whenever we find a seastar who is lost and out of the water - we put it back into the ocean. That  is caring for the seastars AND the world!

We go to the beach every day, and often we find dog-poop, plastics and garbage - people should not leave stuff in nature!

We love spending time at the beach, and caring for the world is picking up garbage. Someone's left their DOG POOP on the beach - that is NOT ok!!!

There is a lot of plastic garbage on the beach and in the ocean. What happens to birds when they eat plastic? They get sick and die. So we pick up the plastic when we see it. Sometimes we make artworks with all the plastic bottle caps we find, like dangly things to hang in our doorway.

Bye bye, Mark the monkey! And thanks for visiting us in the weekend.

Love & lollipops,
Agnes and Elliot
