Tyfjord in our hearts: Straumvatnet

One of the days we climbed all the way up to Straumvatnet. After a solid breakfast on the stairs, we were ready for a day of trekking. The girls stayed behind with Besta and Besten and the others.

First we walked out the fjord along the rocks on the shoreline. That took a good hour. Then the climbing started...  We were heading up along the big waterfall, then crossing over the top edge of the mountain, before entering the lake on top, in between two of the mountains. Here is a satellite photo.

Have a look at the steepness! It is pretty much straight up! And it was H A R D! Petter told of when they got TV for the first time in Tyfjord...they had to erect the big receiver on top of the mountain, so they strapped it on the back and fought their way to the top! Then they stretched the cable all the way back down to Tyfjord!! That is one long cable! And it was still there, amongst the rocks...

More rocks...gotta love grey rocks!
Had to cross teh big waterfall. NOT easy, so strong
currents and so deep!
A whale chasing a steam of herring in the fjord...

Fjœra
Off with the shoes....brrrrr, ice water!

Continuing the climb on the other side
of the waterfall...
Fritz-Arne didn't even bother to take off his shoes...time
to wring the woollen socks!
Freia melkesjokolade!
Tyfjord is far away...can you see the white house?
Perfect shot of uncle Petter with Tyfjord in the background!
Very steep! Mostly creeping on all fours!
Looking over to where next...we are climbing along the
top part of the mountain and over down on the other side...
I'm telling you - it was SCARY and straight down to
NOTHING!!
Calm before heading over the ridge...
Finally at the lake...look at the beautiful mountains...
All fishing rods out....
Coffee time! Julija and Kjetil
Heading back down. See the edge of the lake is literally
balancing on the edge of the mountain! See the fjord
hundreds of metres down below?
Balancing across the river...ooooops...

...almost fell in, but great save! MrC not so lucky - he went
all in, hahaha!
See the people balancing across the ridge to the left in the
picture? From there it was literally straight down!
Enjoying the amazing views!
Invincible!
See Tyfjord far, far down there?

The white house is my grandma Agnes and grandpa Fritz's
Lovely views of the fjord

What a great day that was! The dinner at the campfire that night tasted amazing with a starter like this one!
