Hamningberg

Hamningberg is an abandoned fishing village in north-eastern Norway. Traditionally a fishing village, it is one of very few places in Finnmark not burned down by the retreating Germans in the latter part of the Second World War. It was depopulated during the 1960s, although some of the houses are still in use as cottages.

Hamningberg is Lorentz' father's home place, and this is where Lorentz spent his summer days growing up. We visited with his cousins Leif Erling and his sister, together with Cato, Lorentz' brother, and his daughter Linda and her hubby Kjetil.

Rocks, rocks and more grey rocks! That is what you see on the drive out to where the road ends and you find Hamningberg. It is the most beautiful landscape! I love grey rocks. When I was little I would (to my mother's despair) collect all kinds of rocks. I just loved them! Have a look at the amazing scenery...

Here is the village, with a gorgeous beach. To cold
to swim of course....but beautiful nonetheless!
The church was the first church to be built in Finnmark
after WWII.
Passing the old school building
Agnes and Linda became special friends
No cars are allowed in 'town', so we had to park outside
and walk down

Tørrfesk - dried cod...mmmm

Original wooden buildings from the 1800s

In this original hut, Lorentz' father and previous
generations were born and raised!

And there is even a cafe! Coffee time!
Waffles and hot chocolates all around!!!
The menu. The cafe was run by local kids on summer
holiday.
The Road's End - Tshirts by a local artist

Yet another wonderful day of our summer holiday! The visit to Hamningberg was really something spectacular! Till next time....
