Nunk!

Nunkuwarrin Yunti, or Nunk,  is the foremost community controlled centre in Adelaide, South Australia, providing health care and community support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The name was adopted from the dialects of the two largest clans in the southern region - Ngarrindjeri and Narungga to represent the community, the services and the spirit in which they are provided. It mean 'Working together'. I volunteer here about 3 days a month and I love my time there!

Here are some 'magic rocks' made by Belinda for my girls. Carefully decorated with bright colours, the surprise is actually on the underside - dipping it in water whilst rubbing will reveal a 'secret' message or image. We love it!!! Thanks Belinda, they are so much fun.

We have some 'beer goggles' to put on to demonstrate just how different the grog (alcohol) will make the world...

We also try to promote a health lifestyle and diet - check out the Smoothie bike! Put your fruit and berries in the blender, pop it on and pedal, pedal, pedal as fast as you can!!! Voila, you've got your smoothie for lunch! Here is Belinda in action:

  1. You are such a super woman Nina - I don't know how you'd could possibly fit in volunteer work on top of everything else. You're an inspiration :)
Oh, and how much fun are pedal powered smoothies? Ava and Lola love making them at community events as well as bike churned ice cream. Yum!

    1. Not at all. I should probably have hauled my behind to the gym those days a month...but I just can't be bothered:) Much nicer to meet new people in town. Love this smoothie bike. Wish we had one. Maybe we can add this contraption to the Christiania bike...?! How on earth do they make ice cream?? It sounds terrific!

    2. There's a company here in Berkeley called Rock the Bike that sells everything you need to make smoothies, ice cream and fun bike spun art works. Probably a "little" pricey for at home use (ok, a lot pricey!) but great for fairs, fundraising events, community events etc.
