Moose Jaw...or Little Chicago!

Moose Jaw is a city in south-central Saskatchewan, Canada, on the Moose Jaw River. The Tunnels of Moose Jaw is a year-round attraction. Moose Javians have told stories of the tunnels under the city for decades. Over the years merchants have blocked up many of these spaces. Other under downtown hotels have been filled in following fires or demolition. Only a few are known to remain.

Now, the stories of tunnels under Moose Jaw come alive in interactive theatrical tours.  Guests become part of the underground experience, travelling beneath the streets. History has never been more exciting...This tour takes place in 1927 when Moose Jaw was known as “Little Chicago”. Al Capone ruled “Big” Chicago and Police Chief Johnson ruled Moose Jaw. Today we were bootleggers  who came to Moose Jaw to buy booze from Al Capone - Scarface! We had to learn the ropes and stay out of the way of the local police chief. Our tour started out at Miss Fanny's club and ended up in a tunnel, somewhere underground. And the only one who knew the way out was Gus, one of Capone's goons. Let me just tell you that there were plenty of loud noises and 'surprises' along the way. Gosh, we screamed out loud!

After the tour it was time for a little souvenir shopping. Gregg loves to try new flavours and spicy stuff, so I found some bison jerky and other treasures :-)

As well as the tunnels the town is known for its beautiful murals scattered around the street scene.

And this is Mac the Moose. He is definitely the most famous of them all in Moose Jaw!

Thanks Moose Jaw - we had a great time!
