A seaside afternoon!

Port Douglas is a sleepy sea-side village and a favourite holiday destination for any Aussie. Not far away from Palm Cove, we spent a day there, lapping up the many cafes and eclectic shopping. Considering this was supposed to be a family holiday, we were a bit disappointed that Gregg's mum did not take advantage of seeing the girls and spending all the time she could with us for the week we holidayed together. It seemed we had a different perception of a family holiday - they wanted to spend their time watching footy at the pub, meaning we did not see them much as a beer stained pub is not the best environment for kids! Also, they had already seen Kuranda and did not see the point in going there again, even for the sake of having fun with the girls. So we were pleased that of the week we spent up there, Gregg's mum decided to join us for one afternoon of exploring the area. We have always wished that grandma would spend more time with us, and now that the girls are big enough to understand it is a bit sad to see them disappointed. In fact Milla compares her friends nanas to hers, and asked us about why her grandma have never came to see her specifically. A quick tally showed that she was right. She is now 8 years old, but has never had a sleepover with grandma, walked to the park or the beach with her, gone to the shops with grandma, visited a cafe with her or even been to the cinema with grandma. Even before she moved to Qld she never spent time with the kids. And now, if she ever visits, it is always a very brief stop whilst visiting friends in Adelaide, and we are never first priority. Milla is right, she has never come specifically to visit us. No wonder the girls do not feel special. I know I am a bit biased as I love my girls to bits, but I do not understand how a woman can choose not to love or spend time with these three gorgeous girls.

But enough about the sad stuff. The afternoon in Port Douglas was very nice. How beautiful is this little church?!

St Mary’s by the Sea is an historic 1880 fully restored non-denominational chapel situated in the heart of Port Douglas. It has a huge glass altar window which offers breathtaking views of the Coral Sea and rainforest clad mountains, stained glass windows, traditional wooden pews and a church bell.

Can't really see it in this pic, but out that window is the beach and blue, blue ocean!

The first thing that comes to mind for most people when thinking about Port Douglas is long white sandy beaches with a calm blue ocean lapping on the shore.

Four Mile Beach is exactly that!.....aaaaaaaah, the fresh ocean air was just what I needed.

And nestled in the side of the mountain was this ah-mazing house! Seriously, it looks like the Batcave!!! I love it!

Shopping was good here too. Elliot found a sugar-candy-rose.

And I found this! Perfect for my entrance table! Albeit too expensive as well. It is by a local artist and way beyond my pocket-money so it had to stay in Port Douglas unfortunately.

Agnes found a bouncy baby lizard!

After shopping we found a fabulous seafood restaurant.

My-oh-my the food was amazing! Will I be put on the chopping block for saying that the Paella I had is the best I have ever had - even better than the ones I have had in Spain! Yes, it was that good.

We also had a sorbet out of this world; passionfruit, watermelon and coconut...mmmmmm! And a beautiful sunset to finish the day.

Differences aside - a beautiful day.
